Changing Woman and Explorations of Paranormal Possibility (unfinshed draft)
June 28th, 2009 | Published in spirituality
Paranormal investigation is a fun term. Of course, the phrase refers to things beyond the normal. That’s a little weird to think, kind of like the thought of something being “unnatural.” If it happened, how is it not a part of nature? If these things are capable of occuring, how are they not a part of what is normal? (You know what’s paranormal? YOUR FACE.)
Anyway, I thought I’d go ahead and lay out a bunch of specifics of where I’ve been these past couple months. From where I came from, this is a huge shift. So it is a very heavy path to follow.
To start, you hopefully have read my posts, “How to Lose your Skepticism in 10 Days” and “Changing Woman 3: Objective and Subjective Reality.” Those serve to introduce where my mind is at.
If you’re too lazy, here’s the abridged version: I’ve been a hardcore skeptic for the past few years. Seriously. Fan of JREF/CSICOP/The Skeptical Inquirer/Penn & Teller all that stuff. However, I ended up becoming really interested in a personal development site which had some incredibly insightful, logical, and down-to-earth advice. The problem was the down-to-earth advice providing guy was married to a psychic and believed in things like the Law of Attraction.
This started creating a dissonance in my brain. Then I ended up listening to his thoughts on subjective reality, which really opened my mind. I mean, it demonstrated that it was scientifically possible for me to be missing out on a lot. Even better, it provided a tool for exploring these things: Belief.
I had always thought of beliefs as something unreasonable. Well, they are . . . But that doesn’t mean they have no value. Now I see that they are a different tool than logic, but just as useful of one. In fact, they may be more useful because they operate on a less removed level from physical reality.
Anyway, because there’s nothing to lose but a lot to gain, I decided to go ahead and begin these explorations.
Because the person who opened my mind to these things was interested in psychics, I decided that was a good place to start.
